STILL LIES
Still Lies by Kara Wood examines the deceptive gendered narratives woven into everyday life. Through small-scale installations that mimic traditional still-life arrangements, Wood reimagines domestic scenes, subtly disrupting their familiar order. What first appears ordinary reveals an undercurrent of resistance, challenging long-held assumptions.

Inspired by Simone de Beauvoir’s assertion that "One is not born, but rather becomes," Wood interrogates how patriarchal structures shape identity and power. These seemingly quiet compositions invite viewers to look beyond the surface and critically examine the truths they’ve been taught to accept.

Ceramics, with its permanence and historical significance, plays a central role in Wood’s practice. Unlike fleeting digital or paper records, ceramics endure for millennia, preserving stories beyond the present. By embedding resistance within this lasting medium, Wood envisions a future where the myths of the past are confronted—leaving behind not just objects, but a legacy of empowerment and self-determination.
